Split
design & fabrication
2017
Split is modular pop-up furniture system commissioned by Ted Rogers School of Retail Management at TMU.
Emily was Project Lead for this initiative with her colleague Wendy Chilibeck. Together they shared project management and full-time design and fabrication responsibilities and provided supplementary promotional videos, promotional and instructional print materials, and a comprehensive set of construction drawings.
Their team of 6 members was responsible for the design and fabrication of multi-functional furniture and accessories to be used in a retail setting by pop-up vendors. After retail hours, the furnishings lock away to a configuration that doubles as an off-duty storage system and lounge space for students. Split strives to ‘break the box’ by dividing the volumetric form of a rectangular prism into three different bench modules. Each bench component provides interior storage and display surface area.
Designed and fabricated by Emily Allan (Project Lead), Jonathon Anderson (Assistant Prof.), Amy Brauer, Annie Chen, Wendy Chilibeck (Project Lead), Taylor Diane, and Emily Fischer.
